Captives

Paris, 1894: Fanni voluntarily admits herself to the psychiatric hospital "Hôpital de la Salpêtrière" in search of her mother. Here, a different reality emerges than she had imagined: despite everything, there is a strong friendship among the hundred women who have been locked up with her diagnosis of "mental illness". Their everyday lives are dominated by the hectic preparations for the annual grand ball, where the Parisian bourgeoisie enjoy themselves. For Fanni, this "Bal des folles" is a chance to escape... "Captives" takes us back to a time when female freedom was squeezed into a tight corset.
